Mudroom Backpacks on ShoutoutLA! - Giving Voice to Small Businesses

by David Deioma March 22, 2021

Mudroom Backpacks was recently interviewed by ShoutoutLA!  The publication gives a voice to small businesses.  It was great to talk with them and tell the Mudroom story.

About Shoutout LA!

Shoutout LA is part of the Los Angeles based Voyage Group of Magazines and our flagship publication, VoyageLA was started in 2015.  Since then the publication has grown to almost a dozen cities, generated millions of page views and helped tens of thousands of entrepreneurs and creatives share their stories. Along the way, a vibrant and highly engaged community has been built and Shoutout is about giving that community an opportunity to go beyond stories.  By focusing on topics that are relevant to almost everyone we hope to inspire important conversations within the community and do so in way that puts artists, creatives and local businesses at the center of these conversations.

Shoutout LA! takes the approach that meaningful conversations are at the heart of community building.  Every voice matters and these conversations shouldn’t be led by billionaires, media elites, or celebrities.  It’s far more relevant to hear from the folks who make up the fabric of our communities – small business owners, mom-and-pops, and independent artists and creatives.

About Mudroom Backpacks

I am David Deioma.  I have worked in the outdoor industry and backpacks for over 20 years.  My career started at Adventure16 in San Diego, CA while I had also previously designed, prototyped and licensed an innovative ski bag design while taking an entrepreneurial course in graduate school.

My life has been spent running, hiking, cycling and exploring hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of roads and trails and some backcountry too.  After years of searching and thinking of ways to combine the outdoors with everyday work, I re-tooled the ski bag design into a commuter backpack, branded Mudroom Backpacks and is the direct result of all those miles spent on the roads and trails.

The name "Mudroom" comes from the name for rooms in homes which are used for putting boots and muddy outdoor clothing.  Mudroom packs have the purpose to hold a pair of shoes separately from laptops, electronics and internal storage.

The design is a cross between a pack for work and a bag for working out; and the product features and fabrics complement that.  Effectively, the design enables commuters to carry one bag instead of two while traveling to events or traveling for work.  The shoe compartments are made of a fabric which prevents moisture and dirt from getting into the main compartment.  The shoe compartments also have exterior and interior access, which is a patented feature only available in Mudroom packs.

In addition to the primary functions, there are essential details including tablet, phone and pen pockets, cord storage, internal stretch mesh pockets for added storage and high-quality construction.  Although the construction cannot be seen from the outside, Mudroom packs are reinforced with triple stitching (called bar-tacking) in high-stress areas like the shoulder straps and haul straps.  The shoulder straps hold when the pack is weighed down.  Further both the bottom of the pack is padded along with side-pockets to protect internal electronics and contents.
